Born in Athens, baritone Aris Argiris first studied Marketing, Languages, Saxophone and Music Theory in his hometown before beginning his vocal training with Kostas Paskalis, Frangiscos Voutsinos and Despoina Kalafati. In 1999 he was awarded the prestigious Maria Callas Scholarship in Athens and continued his studies in the master class of Daphne Evangelatos at the University of Music and Performing Arts in Munich.
The 2024/25 season featured three major debuts: Don Pizarro (Fidelio) with Theater Heidelberg at Musikkollegium Winterthur, the title role in Der fliegende Holländer in Linz under Markus Poschner, and Tonio (I Pagliacci) in Innsbruck. In the same season he appeared in several concert projects, including the Opera Gala at the Athens Concert Hall and the “Verdi vs. Wagner – Scenes and Arias” series in Siegen, Iserlohn and Lüdenscheid.
In the 2025/26 season, Aris Argiris is performing Amonasro in Aida at Staatstheater Darmstadt and returning to the National Opera Sofia as Wotan in Die Walküre. In March 2026 he will record his first CD, Der griechische Schubert (Da Vinci Publishing), a cycle he created himself, featuring Lieder by Franz Schubert inspired by Greek mythology and Ancient Greece.
Looking ahead to the 2026/27 season, he will make two significant debuts: Telramund in Lohengrin at the Landestheater Linz and Orest in Elektra at Oper Graz, further expanding his presence in the dramatic German repertoire.
In June 2023 he made his debut at the Béla Bartók Concert Hall as part of the Müpa Festival Budapest, singing Wotan in Wagner’s Die Walküre under Adam Fischer.
During the 2023/24 season he returned as Wotan in Die Walküre at the Festspielhaus Neuschwanstein in Füssen (a guest performance of Opera Sofia) under Lothar Zagrosek, and again in June 2024 at the Wagner Festival of the Sofia National Opera. He also sang two major Verdi roles: Amonasro in Aida at the Felsenreitschule Salzburg and Jago in Otello at Staatstheater Darmstadt.
In the concert field, he remains highly sought after: in January he appeared as Wotan/Wanderer in Loriot’s Der Ring an einem Abend at the Berlin Philharmonie, the Meistersingerhalle Nuremberg, the Alte Oper Frankfurt, the Liederhalle Stuttgart and the Isarphilharmonie Munich. In June he performed with the Staatskapelle Weimar in Vaughan Williams’ Songs of Travel under Felix Miltenberg.
Highlights of the 2022/23 season included Amonasro in Aida at Theater Chemnitz, Nabucco in St. Margarethen, Wotan in Das Rheingold at Staatstheater Braunschweig, Wotan in Die Walküre at the Hungarian State Opera Budapest, and Germont in La Traviata at the Aalto Theater Essen. At the Bayreuth Festival he covered Wotan (Rheingold/Walküre) and the Wanderer and sang Telramund in Lohengrin for Wagner for Children. He had previously appeared as Wotan in Die Walküre at Oper Chemnitz in 2018.
Following permanent engagements in Gelsenkirchen, Dortmund and Bonn, Aris Argiris was a member of the ensemble of Oper Frankfurt until the end of the 2010/11 season.
His international career expanded rapidly with guest engagements at the Royal Opera House Covent Garden as Escamillo (Carmen), at the Arena di Verona as Figaro (Il barbiere di Siviglia), and in St. Petersburg as Renato (Un ballo in maschera). Further appearances have taken him to the opera houses of Athens, Hamburg, Essen, Stuttgart, Leipzig, Berlin, Dresden, Freiburg, Munich, Vienna, St. Gallen, Bern, Stockholm, London, Brussels, Luxembourg, Antwerp-Ghent, Naples, Trieste, Savonlinna, San Diego, Montreal, Lima, Buenos Aires and Tokyo. With the Israel Philharmonic Orchestra under Zubin Mehta he appeared as Renato, Jago, Escamillo and in Mahler’s Kindertotenlieder.
Among his earlier roles are Don Giovanni, Conte d’Almaviva and Figaro (Le nozze di Figaro), Figaro (Il barbiere di Siviglia), Enrico (Lucia di Lammermoor), Escamillo (Carmen), Graf Luna (Il trovatore), Marchese di Posa (Don Carlo), Francesco (I Masnadieri) and Marcello (La Bohème).
In recent years he has firmly established himself in the dramatic Italian and German repertoire, performing roles such as Rigoletto, Amonasro (Aida), Renato (Un ballo in maschera), Germont (La Traviata), Jago (Otello), Scarpia (Tosca), the Four Villains (Les Contes d’Hoffmann), Jochanaan (Salome), Wotan (Das Rheingold/Die Walküre), the Wanderer (Siegfried) and the Ruler (Das Wunder der Heliane).
He has collaborated with conductors such as Zubin Mehta, Christian Thielemann, Adam Fischer, Manfred Honeck, Kurt Masur, Yakov Kreizberg, Donato Renzetti, Graeme Jenkins, Carlo Rizzi, Patrick Lange and Antonello Allemandi.
With the Württembergische Philharmonie Reutlingen he recorded Siegfried Matthus’ Ariadne – Dithyramb for Baritone and Orchestra as well as Holofernes’ aria from Matthus’ opera Judith (Genuin label).
As Escamillo in Bizet’s Carmen, he appeared in the world’s first 3D opera film, recorded at the Royal Opera House Covent Garden in 2010.
In 2002 he won the International Singing Competition of the Chamber Opera Schloss Rheinsberg, performing the title role in Mozart’s Don Giovanni. In 2007 he was named “Best Young Artist of Greece” by the Greek Music Association.
Since 2016, Aris Argiris has been Professor of Voice at the University of the Arts Berlin.

Im März 2026 nimmt er seine erste CD Der griechische Schubert (Label: Da Vinci Publishing) auf – einen von ihm selbst konzipierten Zyklus mit Liedern von Franz Schubert, inspiriert von der griechischen Mythologie und dem antiken Griechenland.
Mit Blick auf die Spielzeit 2026/27 folgen zwei bedeutende Rollendebüts: als Telramund in Lohengrin am Landestheater Linz und als Orest in Elektra an der Oper Graz, womit er seine Präsenz im dramatischen deutschen Repertoire weiter ausbaut.
Im Juni 2023 gab er sein Debüt in der Béla-Bartók-Konzerthalle im Rahmen des Müpa-Festivals Budapest als Wotan in Wagners Die Walküre unter Adam Fischer.
In der Spielzeit 2023/24 kehrte er als Wotan in Die Walküre an das Festspielhaus Neuschwanstein in Füssen (eine Gastproduktion der Nationaloper Sofia) unter Lothar Zagrosek zurück und im Juni 2024 erneut zum Wagner-Festival der Nationaloper Sofia. Außerdem sang er zwei bedeutende Verdi-Partien: Amonasro in Aida in der Felsenreitschule Salzburg sowie Jago in Otello am Staatstheater Darmstadt.

Im Jahr 2002 gewann Aris Argiris den Internationalen Gesangswettbewerb der Kammeroper Schloss Rheinsberg und sang die Titelpartie in Mozarts Don Giovanni. 2007 wurde er von der Griechischen Musikvereinigung als „Bester junger Künstler Griechenlands“ ausgezeichnet.
Seit 2016 ist Aris Argiris Professor für Gesang an der Universität der Künste Berlin.

Nel ruolo di Escamillo in Carmen di Bizet è stato protagonista del primo film d’opera in 3D al mondo, registrato nel 2010 alla Royal Opera House Covent Garden.
Nel 2002 ha vinto il Concorso Internazionale della Kammeroper Schloss Rheinsberg, interpretando il ruolo del titolo nel Don Giovanni di Mozart. Nel 2007 è stato nominato “Miglior Giovane Artista di Grecia” dall’Associazione Musicale Greca.
Dal 2016, Aris Argiris è Professore di Canto presso l’Università delle Arti di Berlino.
